What began as a straightforward project in England—photographing school classes in their learning environment—ultimately took Julian Germain eight years to complete. During his trip around the world he realized more than 400 group portraits of young learners in their classrooms. It soon becomes clear that reading, writing, and arithmetic are the foundation of education worldwide. Yet equally as apparent are the formative religious, economic, and ethnic differences between them.
