Jan Jedlička walks, roams, and circles an area of countryside in southern Tuscany. The geographic region of Maremma proves to be a sparsely settled, barren landscape, far removed from Italy’s tourist attractions. Following its network of waterways and the change of the seasons, Jedlicˇka inscribes himself on the landscape. “Il Cerchio” (2005/06), the series of photographs he made over the course of a year, also tells of the many attempts to cultivate this region, situated where the land and the sea meet.
